Hello, and welcome to the ISOS Blog!
For a while now, Glenda Satne and I have been thinking about how we can make ISOS more inclusive, especially for those of us who cannot attend the annual conference every year. Speaking of which: the 2026 conference starts in just over a week. I won't be there, sadly, but I hope everyone has fun in Krakow!
We decided that a blog can help ISOS members stay informed about all of the excellent social ontology going on around the world. The website already has a news page, and ISOS leadership regularly sends out newsletters. Nevertheless, we hope that this blog can become a more personal venue: a place where members can talk to each other directly, a place where members can build lasting connections, a place that can provide a virtual analogue of sharing a coffee (or a tea, or a beer, or whatever your drink of choice is).
To that end, most posts will feature contributions from different ISOS members, organized around a few recurring themes:
You can expect a new post on the first Monday of every month -- except for this month, because today is Friday! For now, there is no Substack-style email subscription. But there is an RSS feed that you can add to your reader. We will also announce new posts in the newsletter and on social media as we establish the blog's publishing rhythm.
Finally, if you have any suggestions for the blog or if you would like to contribute, please do not hesitate to contact me at peter.w.finocchiaro@gmail.com. I am very excited to help launch the ISOS blog, and I am even more excited to get you all involved.
