Social Ontology Faces the Future: Artificial and collective agents

Are AI agents like collective agents? In which ways are ChatGPT's decisions like a university's decisions? To what extent is big data similar to democracy? We welcome you all to attend the second 'Social Ontology Faces the Future' event which promises to bring us exciting and thought-provoking presentations on topics within social ontology and the philosophy of artificial intelligence. Join us as we consider questions like these, as well as further theoretical discussions on the nature of agency, collective & artificial agents and their abilities.

The motivation behind this workshop is essentially to gather some speakers who work primarily on artificial agents and some speakers who work primarily on collective agents so that we might be able to engage in a productive discussion about how the fields can inform each other. Of course, those who work on both collective & artificial agents are especially encouraged to attend!

Enjoy two days of philosophy in the bustling environs of Europe's biggest city, Istanbul! After a hard day's philosophizing, we'll continue the fun with a post-workshop dinner where speakers and attendees will get a chance to socialise, continue discussions and have fun.

The event will be held at Koç University's ANAMED research centre in the centre of Istanbul. Istiklal Caddesi is one of Istanbul's most popular and famous streets with great travel connections to the rest of the city. ANAMED is an oasis of calm within the bustle of central Istanbul, and should prove to be an excellent venue for this event.

Keynotes: Christian List (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) and Pekka Mäkelä (University of Helsinki)
