Social Ontology 2019

The 6th Biennial ENSO Conference

August 22-24, 2019, Tampere University, Finland

In August 2019, Tampere University will host the biennial social ontology conference. This major conference will bring together leading philosophers and other theorists studying the nature of the social world and how to improve our models of it.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION OPENS NOVEMBER 5th, 2018

Topics include:

  • Approaches to the metaphysics of the social world
  • Collective intentionality and group action
  • The nature of institutions and social structures
  • Philosophy of race and gender
  • Metaphysics of money and markets
  • Collective and distributed responsibility
  • Societal and philosophical aspects of social robotics
  • Ontological aspects of critical social theory

Interdisciplinary contributions are encouraged.

Basic conference fee (TBC) for ISOS members is ca. €50, and a voluntary supporter fee is ca €100. For others, $90/45 annual ISOS membership fee on top of that. Details about registration will be added in due time.

The conference series:
The International Social Ontology Society (ISOS)  organizes two series of conferences. This conference is the sixth in the series of The European Network on Social Ontology conferences, whence the subtitle ENSO VI.  Previous ENSO and Collective Intentionality conferences were held at Tufts, Boston (2018); Lund (2017); The Hague (2016), Palermo (2015); Indiana University Bloomington (2014), Helsinki (2013), Manchester (2012), Rome (2011), Basel (2010), Konstanz (2009), Berkeley (2008), Helsinki (2006), Siena (2004), Rotterdam (2002), Leipzig (2000), and Munich (1999).
